Week 28 Earrings

Order of sequence BettyMcKim, sterling silver scalloped circle drop, still working out the kinks on this design. Lillian Jones granulation with enamel. Suzanne Krill, plexiglass and gemstone, silver rivets. Julie Brooks "Princess Leas" series, one pair is from week 27. The geometric linear simplicity of Megan Clark.

Summer Clouds

Had a fun trip to Southport and Wilmington, NC. After so much sweltering heat a day in the eighties felt like fall. The clouds were so pretty. We rode the ferry and cycled around the quaint town of Southport. Then enjoyed swimming at Wrightsville Beach. Water was a little rough, red flag day, but we had a blast and ended the day with a wonderful home cooked meal from grandma.

Week 27, alittle late.

Sterling silver with sapphires, granulation and enamel, check out Lillians Blog, Suzannes' shell fragment earrings, and Megans copper earrings. Megan is off to art in the park in blowing rock. Julie still needs to post ,she has been moving into her new studio at art space. Seems everyone is super busy right now, and really its just too hot here in Raleigh.

Couldn't resist

This is such a funny image, the monkey picked up photographers camera and took his own photo.

Garnets and sapphires

New pieces, lots of gemstones.
Bracelet and earrings. The earrings are my favorite hoop to make right now.

Week 26 earring challenge

Summer is here

Our first trip to Wilmington, NC this summer. In memory of Georges' dad we visited St. James Church.

Week 25, almost 1/2 way through the year!

The challenge keeps on going Suzanne Krill: rubber and silver, Megan Clark: teardrops, Lillian Jones: granulation, Betty McKim: Silver with pink sapphire, and Julie Brooks Tiny Dancer.

Bike, Guard Owl and Earring of the Week Oxidized

Georges new bike, he had a nice fathers day ride. I have been battling the squirrel over tomatoes, my new tactic is the guard owl. So far so good. And since Im doing alot of these earrings using the circle with spokes, incorporating a stone or two in central area heres' a different surface treatment. Always hard to decide whether to oxidize or not I usually do some of both. I really like the steely black Liver of Sulfur puts on silver. Same earring different finish as the one in Week 24 post, feel free to chime in as to you preferance.

Week 23, and more Larkspur photos

This is a rather scatterd post Im probably too tired to organize my thoughts. Larkspur was very awesome this year thanks so much to all that came out and supported the craftspeople presenting their work. I did a little trading and purchasing as well. Lisa Oakleys green with orange spiral garden glass ball, my guard owl from Jean Mahaffey. Brad Tucker and his Daughter lizzie. I am a huge Brad Tucker Pottery fan. It was great having friends come visit and stroll the gardens in their favorite sun hats. The laughter and joy of friendship carried us all through the heat. More pictures of things on a stick to come. Still waiting on two more earring weeekly challenge pieces to arrive. these are Betty, Julie & Megan.

Larkspur is here!

Larkspur is a beautiful garden show on Litchford Rd. Hosted by Francis Alvarino. I always look forward to hanging out with all my craftsmen buddies. Alot of the friendships began at Cedar Creek Gallery almost 20 years ago. Anyone who reads this post and signs up to follow my blog, comes to the show and mention that they signed up will receive a 10% discount on any bettymckimjewelry purchase.
the show is saturday and sunday 10-5.

Saturday Post

Started the morning with a Jewelry Forging Workshop taught by Ben Dyer, from Hillsborough NC. His work is elegantly and masterfully created using classic forging techniques. Ended the day picking my first tomatoe off off our vine. Had to get it before the squirrel did.
